Perimeter Security for Warehouses and Industrial Properties in Southern Ontario
A comprehensive security solution is necessary for protecting Southern Ontario properties from various threats including theft, vandalism and property damage. Achieving that comprehensive security solution begins with looking at the perimeter security of your property. In today’s blog we will be looking at perimeter security for Warehouses and Industrial Properties in Southern Ontario.
What is Perimeter Security?
Perimeter Security is about creating a solid first line of defense for your property. It involves the use of various measures such as physical barriers, access control and threat detection to protect your property. This gives property owners time to respond to potential security threats before more vulnerable areas of the property are in danger.
What are the important elements of Perimeter Security?
What follows are some of the elements that are essential for comprehensive perimeter security in Southern Ontario.
Fencing
Fencing that creates a physical barrier to accessing the property is one of the simplest and most effective types of perimeter security. You should be sure to choose a fence made of sturdy materials that are difficult to cut and make use of barbed or razor wire at the top of the fence to prevent climbing.
Access Control
Access control systems refer to any security system that controls who is allowed into the property. These can be as simple as traditional locks and keys to more complex systems like keycards or biometric scanners. Access Control can also include manned main gates so authorized access can be confirmed by on site security.
Lighting
Lighting is an important security element for any property, even more so if the property spends long periods of time unoccupied or if that property has a large outdoor component. Light makes intruders feel more “seen” and therefor acts as an excellent deterrent. It also improves visibility and safety for any on-site personnel.
Video Surveillance
A more technologically advanced element that should be included in any comprehensive perimeter security solution is surveillance cameras. Cameras should be positioned to cover entry points and vulnerable areas and be easily accessible by any on-site security staff so they can respond to threats quickly. Using smart security systems these cameras can also be tied into access control systems and intrusion detection systems.
Intrusion Detection Systems
These are specialized systems designed to detect attempts to breach the perimeter of the property. These systems can include things like motion sensors and infrared sensors that can detect threats and notify security personnel.
