Security Challenges and Solutions in Burlington’s Hospitality Industry
Burlington, ON is a bustling city of approximately 200,000 with a strong hospitality industry. In today’s blog article, we want to talk about some security challenges and solutions in Burlington’s hospitality industry.
While Burlington has a relatively low crime rate with a Crime Severity Index or CSI of 23.95, nevertheless the hospitality industry takes security seriously in order to protect guests and visitors.
Cameras
Cameras and video surveillance is usually situated in hotel lobbies, sometimes in hallways on upper floors and throughout parking lots. This is to deter crime, to protect guests, and to have evidence of comings and goings in case there is any crime.
These cameras can be viewed on a live feed, and film can also be recorded and preserved as needed. As technology as improved, it may be possible for managers to access a video feed on their phone or at home on their laptop.
IoT
More and more hotels or other venues that receive guests rely on the Internet of Things or IoT for sensors that can detect a variety of problems such as floods or fire. These sensors may be analyzed by AI for anything out of the ordinary that might need attention such as a guest who fell in a doorway and the door will not close.
Sensors
There may be an abundance of sensors just for intrusion detection. These are possibly sensors on doors or windows that can alert the security department (or owner) if there is a breach. These types of sensors are not just to prevent criminal behaviour, but also to monitor unauthorized access to anywhere on a property.
Anyone involved in the hospitality industry should be taking full advantage of the modern technology available to protect assets, guests, and property, as this technology continues to evolve.
